DW Windsor Launches Rail Business Unit to Deliver Lighting Performance and IoT Innovation

British manufacturer of intelligent lighting solutions responds to commercial momentum and to the growing demand for strategic innovation in the rail industry.

The DW Windsor Group is pleased to announce the creation of a new strategic business unit to support clients working within the rail industry. The unit will focus on delivering enhanced lighting solutions centred around reduced energy use, increased passenger safety and an improved passenger experience.

DW Windsor Rail has been established to provide intelligent lighting solutions specifically tailored to the rail sector. It will integrate products and services from two key divisions within the Group, including lighting equipment from DW Windsor and smart control solutions from Urban Control.

DW Windsor Group has worked extensively within the rail sector, partnering with organisations including Network Rail, First Group and the Department for Transport to deliver lighting upgrades across the country. The Group has also secured funding to develop new intelligent controls technology for several Innovate UK projects, rolling out pilot schemes across multiple sites.

Recent examples include the lighting of public areas at the new Meridian Water station in London and interactive lighting solutions at Chippenham station in Wiltshire. Here, data and AI-driven lighting innovations are speeding-up embarkation times, encouraging safer walking speeds, providing dynamic wayfinding, and helping vulnerable passengers get the assistance they need.

By managing future projects within a single, user-focused entity, the DW Windsor Group can offer solutions designed to benefit both rail operators and passengers.

To lead the new unit, the DW Windsor Group has brought in David Woodcock. Originally trained as an electrical engineer, David has over 25 years’ experience within the lighting industry and has previously worked at DW Windsor in a number of key roles.

“By combining products and services from both DW Windsor and Urban Control, we’re able to offer unique solutions to our customers,” explained Esther Newton, UK Sales Director at DW Windsor. “We’ve already developed a number of innovative products and systems designed specifically for this market and look forward to offering new solutions to customers in the future.”
