Garda handrail to light one of Canada’s busiest bridges

June 2019, by Gemma Snelling, Marketing Manager

We are excited to share that our Garda illuminated handrail has been chosen to light Montreal's new Champlain Bridge.

Meeting the highest engineering standards, the new bridge is set to become an iconic presence in Montreal’s skyline. The new 3.4km structure, featuring six vehicle lanes and a separate cycle and pedestrian lane, has taken three-and half-years to take shape. It will replace the deteriorating existing bridge of the same name.

The busy route accommodates over 50 million cars, bus and truck crossings every year and is also vital for commerce as it facilitates the movement of imports and exports, with an estimated yearly value of $15.2 billion.

Garda stainless steel (4000K) illuminated handrail will be used to light the carriageway in 2m sections along the bridge.

Tom Daniels, International Sales Manager for DW Windsor, comments,

Garda is an excellent solution for bridges: superior directional light without the obstruction of columns, providing the right light while keeping the magnificent architecture of the bridge intact.

Product has just been delivered to site and the full project is due to be completed at the end of June.
