Supporting inspirational women in lighting

March 2019, by Gemma Snelling, Marketing Manager

Women today are equals. We are prime ministers, astronauts, we play rugby, we run businesses. This week even sees the release of Captain Marvel – the first woman-led superhero film from the Marvel franchise: so is a day in honour of women (I'm of course talking about International Women’s Day on the 8th March) still relevant or retrogressive?

The world has undergone a substantial attitudinal shift in both women's and society's thoughts about gender equality. Many of us enjoy blasting stereotypes, myself included, juggling work while raising a family. Yet, within the lighting industry, there's no hiding the fact we are underrepresented.

Which is exactly why we need initiatives such as new digital platform - Women in Lighting.

Women in Lighting is not about gender inequality or minority. Instead, it promotes inclusivity, balance and profiles women working in lighting to inspire and provide a support network for the next generation of female lighting designers. A project by Light Collective and supported by formalighting.

I very much look forward to seeing more and supporting the project, which launches March 8th.
