The brief

Reading Borough Council is in the process of revamping the whole of Reading town centre, and has a special development team working full-time on this project. They asked us to help with the lighting improvements planned for the area.

The challenge

Create a stylish and modern feeling in the centre of the town through the use of stunning fittings which include the provision for banners to be displayed

our solution

We designed columns that were structurally engineered to withstand the large wind loads which would be expected due to the banners. We recommended a smooth tapered column, specially adapted to take double-mounted luminaires and incorporating technically advanced, raise and lower banner technology. A hugely practical solution, only the lower arm level needs to be accessed to change the banners.

The result

The Council has received very positive feedback from residents and local businesses, and has committed to deploying the same techniques and similar fittings for other parts of the town centre.
